Buffalo Wild Wings - Quick Byte Review

We stopped in at Buffalo Wild Wings on a recent Friday afternoon.  We were surprised at how big it is.  The seating is open, the ceiling is high, and if you want your dining companions to hear your conversation, shouting is needed.  The sports bar atmosphere is reinforced with the numerous televisions located throughout.

On our lunch visit we were seated quickly despite the fact that they were busy.  We ordered a burger (adequate), the Parmesan Garlic Chicken Wings (also adequate), and Buffalo Chips (soggy).  All came served in cardboard containers.  We tried to order beer, but the server couldn’t tell us what was on tap.  Instead we settled for a margarita (good) and a glass of shiraz (ok), which prompted our server to question, “Is that a type of beer?”.

The menu was a solid sports bar menu, as all Buffalo Wild Wings locations have.  If you are on the east side and get a hankering for sports bar food, this will hit the spot.

A word of warning to those of you who care about these things - there is no smoking ban in Monona, and though the bar area is the only smoking area, once you get used to smoke-free dining,  it becomes something you notice quickly, no matter where you sit.

  1. There are SERIOUS issues with staff training at this place… certainly a reflection of the management. I’ve dined there twice and ordered take-out twice, and they have yet to get things right (all four orders have been incorrect, despite being incredibly easy) and I even contacted the manager who offered nothing in return. The high-school-aged staff is more interested in chatting with each other than staying focused on the customers and the details of their orders.

Given the cost of the buildout and such, I’m still amazed at restaurant managers who can’t train their staffs.

Oh, hey, what was that “poof” noise? Oh… that was the franchise fee going up in smoke.

  2. This place has some of the worst service I have ever had. My husband and I love the wings, but the chicken tenders, burgers, and appetizers sucked! I have been there three times and only go because I crave the wings. From now on, we order to go!

The management should really look at a new hire training program and verse their servers on alcoholic beverages. The plain black tshirts do not help you destiinguish the servers from the crowd and look really nappy after they have been washed too many times. The BWW that we used to frequent in West Allis beats the shorts off the Monona one. I’d rather drive to MIlwaukee just to get great service!

  3. Agree with the previous comments, service is an issue. We were seated for 5 minutes — and at that point had to get up and ask the servers (that were standing around talking to each other), if someone could please wait on us. We did get waited on finally — but had to about tackle the server to get us a refill on any drinks we had. Will get to go next time. Please invest in training and hold your serving staff accountable.

  4. Went there last night and had great service and the food was delicious. As soon as walked in the door we were greeted and seated. Within a couple of minutes a waiter came, took our drink orders, brought those within 5 minutes and then took our food order. Food came after about 15 minutes, everything was hot and the order was correct. No complaints here. YES we will go back.

  5. I went to the BW3 in Monona twice. First let me just say that I love Chicken wings and BW3 is something that I crave and will even wait for. On both occasions I ordered take-out. The first visit I was greeted and the order was taken and arrived quickly. On the second visit I had I walked into a crowd of teenagers who happened to be servers/waiters/hostess’ NO ONE ASKED ME IF I HAD BEEN HELPED. After waiting for five minutes a gentalman who was on the phone told me that someone would be with me in a minute-a minute turned into ten!! I was disgusted by the service and I am surprised that such a nice bar has the worst service that I have seen in years!! I would rather go to the state street location at bartime and eat with a bunch of drunken college students!!

  6. I had a great time the other night at the Packer Game. I went to the Monona Buffalo Wild Wings and had a great time. The staff was upbeat and really getting into the game with all the Packer Fans. I have been at this location many times since they have opened and it keeps getting better every time that I visit. I can’t wait to catch the NFC championship game here. You will need to get there early as I was there an hour before and it was getting full. Go packers.

  7. I too am addicted to their wings & drive 20 miles weekly to get my fill, but EVERY SINGLE time I complain about the service. I can not comprehend how servers that work for tips have no clue about customer service, much less the menu, wine/beer list, etc. We have waited over 10 minutes just to have an employee walk by & say “I am not your server, but he will be over in a minute”, next time we had a stoner teen who had no clue what to do - not even sure he knew where he was! We tried flagging down the manager w/o much response. Too bad cuz they have a great location, great wings & a fun atmosphere for sports events.
